Extremely shiny facades or highly reflective car paintwork with iridescent color effects – what was completely unthinkable 100 years ago is increasingly shaping our everyday world. Reflective materials have long since found their way into the visual arts as well. Beginning in the 1950s, artists such as Christian Megert, Heinz Mack, and Getulio Alviani established them as independent materials and conceptual starting points for two- and three-dimensional works.
With the exhibition Reflections / Mirror Worlds, the Museum für Konkrete Kunst takes a closer look at these materials as well as the principle of reflection itself. Based on works from the collections of the museum and the Foundation for Concrete Art and Design, Reflections / Mirror Worlds presents sculptures, paintings, photographs and expansive installations by almost 30 artists, including pioneer figures of concrete and kinetic art as well as current positions.
