Gerold Miller (Altshausen, Germany, 1961) has spent over forty years working at the intersection of sculpture, painting, and architectural space. Trained at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, he is one of the most renowned figures of his generation, with a body of work that bridges Minimalism and Conceptualism.
This exhibition—his first solo show in Latin America—brings together recent pieces from the *set*, *Profil*, and *Verstärker* series, alongside a photographic work from the *Monoform* series. Using lacquered surfaces that range from monochromatic restraint to vibrant color, Miller activates the picture plane through cuts and reflections that directly engage the viewer. *Verstärker* extends this language into the physical space of the gallery, while *Monoform* relates it to the viewer’s own body. Trained in Germany a generation after the pioneers of kinetic and programmatic geometry, Miller revisits that same impulse—conceiving geometry not as a closed form but as an experience—and projects it into the present, creating works where the surface comes alive only the moment someone stops in front of it.

The exhibition runs from August 14 to November 9 at MACBA (Av. San Juan 328, San Telmo); visiting hours are 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Gerold Miller (Altshausen, Alemania, 1961) trabaja desde hace más de cuarenta años en el límite entre la escultura, la pintura y el espacio arquitectónico. Formado en la Academia Estatal de Bellas Artes de Stuttgart, es una de las figuras más reconocidas de su generación, con una obra que tiende puentes entre el Minimalismo y el Conceptualismo.
Esta muestra —su primera exposición individual en América Latina— reúne piezas recientes de las series set, Profil y Verstärker, junto con una obra fotográfica de la serie Monoform. En superficies lacadas que oscilan entre la contención monocroma y el color más vibrante, Miller activa el plano con cortes y reflejos que involucran directamente a quien las mira. Verstärker lleva ese lenguaje al espacio real de la sala; Monoform, al propio cuerpo. Miller, formado en Alemania una generación después de los pioneros de la geometría cinética e programática, retoma ese mismo impulso —pensar la geometría no como forma cerrada sino como experiencia— y lo proyecta hacia el presente, en obras donde la superficie se activa únicamente en el instante en que alguien se detiene frente a ella.
