Alexandre Arrechea was commissioned by Percent for Art In New York City in 2019 to create Urban Poet, a 20-foot-tall sculpture of a unicycle planned for installation in the Prospect Heights neighborhood. Arrechea intends for the sculpture to resonate with its Brooklyn location in juxtaposition to traditional local architecture as an enormous unicycle stationed at a roadway median.

Urban Poet was designed with the youth of the neighborhood in mind. Where the wheel spokes should usually be, Urban Poet features the image of PS 159, a few blocks from the planned installation site. The visual instability of the unicycle invites younger New Yorkers to lead large-scale change within their communities, where urban construction sites are omnipresent yet so distant from those who walk past them everyday. The installation is planned for on-site completion in 2023.
