Lo tienes que ver. La autonomía del color en el arte abstracto
(You have to see it. The Autonomy of Color in Abstract Art)
Group exhibition
From February 28th to June 8, 2025.
Fundación Juan March Madrid. Castelló 77
You have to see it. The Autonomy of Color in Abstract Art will showcase the work of Waldo Balart among a wide number of artists from the 20th and 21st centuries for whom color is an essential and structuring principle. With nearly a hundred pieces from all five continents, the exhibition will focus on the early experiments in abstraction and the use of flat, unmixed areas of color, unmodulated by gesture. In addition to painting, sculpture, and works on paper, it will feature film and video by artists, installations and interventions, textiles, ceramics, photography, books, and documents.
The exhibition will also include a space dedicated to the precursors of the autonomy of color, with publications by 18th- and 19th-century theorists, as well as significant pieces that will showcase the sources of color across different civilizations, its relationship to optics and the physics of light, natural and synthetic pigments and dyes, and their use throughout the history of art.
